Queen’s University CUPE Strike Talks Extended

UPDATE – August 7 :
Queen’s University CUPE Strike Averted

The Queen’s University News Centre has released a statement that the University and CUPE have agreed to extend their legal strike/lockout deadline to 12:01 am, Monday August 8.

The parties will meet again next Thursday August 4 and Friday August 5.

The mediator has imposed a communications blackout. That means no details of the ongoing negotiations will be released.

The parties have been in negotiations since January. Mediation began earlier this week. CUPE’s last contract expired June 30, 2010. CUPE collectively represent approximately 430 staff who are technicians (Local 254), library technicians (Local 1302) and a number of employees in Physical Plant Services, Residence Operations and Athletics & Recreation (Local 229).
