Queen’s University in Kingston has once again taken top spot in the annual Globe and Mail Canadian University Report, with the most ‘A’ grades of any large, medium or small university, including first place for overall student satisfaction.

The Globe report ranks Canadian universities on 19 indicators of student experience developed through a student survey, and was the first of three annual national rankings to be released this fall.

“Queen’s quality shines through in these results on teaching and the learning environment, inside and outside the classroom,” says Principal Daniel Woolf. “With its focus on student experience, the Globe Report helps us to focus first and foremost on students and meeting their needs.”

The University also received an ‘A+’ grade in the ‘Reputation with Employer’ category, which Queen’s describes as “reflecting a high degree of job readiness and student preparedness for workplace situations and environments”.

Career Fairs held on campus this year, organized by Queen’s Career Services and the Kingston Economic Development Corporation, have been described as the best ever attended by both employers and students.

An ‘A-’ in City Satisfaction is being touted by the school as further support of a strong and collaborative relationship between the Queen’s community and the City of Kingston. It is estimated that at least 80 per cent of Queen’s students have volunteered in the Kingston community by the time they graduate and the City has supported the students’ role as citizens by implementing the Queen’s-Kingston town-gown strategic plan (pdf).

Maclean’s University Rankings was also published this week, with the magazine edition hitting stands today, and Research InfoSource rankings are expected next month.

For the Maclean’s report, Queen’s University is ranked in the Medical Doctoral category that includes universities which “offer a broad range of Ph.D. programs and have medical schools”.

Queen’s was listed in 5th place last year and moved up to 4th spot in the 2011 Report, switching places with Alberta. McGill University took top honours, followed by Toronto and UBC.

With the recent opening of their state of the art Medical Building, Queen’s University may continue this upward trend in next year’s Macleans Report.
