The intersection of Princess and Barrie streets will be closed beginning Monday, March 12 as reconstruction work continues on Princess Street.

North and south of the intersection on Barrie Street will remain open to local traffic including access to the Metro parking lot.

Princess Street businesses continue to stay open and Princess Street between Division and Barrie will be two-way traffic while the intersection is closed. Temporary traffic signals and signage is in place to inform motorists and pedestrians on navigating the change.

“This phase of Princess Street reconstruction is on schedule and we are excited for this milestone,” said director of engineering Mark Campbell in a release. “We are continuing to work with the contractor to ensure access to businesses remains open including allowing two-way traffic along a section of Princess Street.”

This is the final phase of work to Princess Street that has been guided by the City’s Downtown Action Plan which covers the 39 blocks of downtown and outlines the materials to be used to beautify our downtown streetscape and complement the city’s historic character.

The construction will continue to move up Princess Street from Clergy to Division over the coming months. This section of Princess Street will re-open to traffic on July 1.
