Three members of the Kingston Police CORE (Community Oriented Response and Enforcement) Unit were honoured today with commendations by Chief Gilles Larochelle for their quick response to a stranger-on-stranger sexual assault that occurred in March.

According to a release, a female tenant was in her Colborne Street apartment located On Thursday, March 13, 2014 a when an unknown man entered the building at approximately 11:30 pm.

The male then forced his way into the woman’s apartment and attempted to sexually assault her, but the tenant managed to fight off the assailant and her screams drew the attention of other tenants in the building and the man fled the building.

As a 911 call about the incident was received by Kingston Police, a member of the CORE unit was in the station about to sign off duty for the night when he heard the dispatch over the radio. He immediately returned to his vehicle and attended the scene to speak with the victim to collect details and a description of the man, as well as securing evidence at the scene.

While that officer collected information, two other CORE officers in an unmarked police cruiser received information that the suspect may have had a firearm and had been seen fleeing into an alleyway near the vicinity of Queen and Chapman Streets.

The CORE officers entered the alleyway and made a gun-point arrest of  a suspect matching the description. He was then quickly brought into custody.

45 year old David Anthony Wilson was subsequently charged with Sexual Assault, Break and Enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, Uttering Threats to Cause Death, and three (3) counts of Breach of Probation.  He remains remanded into custody while awaiting trial.
