Three new members are being sought for the municipal accessibility advisory committee (MAAC) to help advise council on accessibility issues and matters of interest to people with disabilities.

Applicants should be interested in serving the city, are familiar with the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and have expertise or interest in this area.

MAAC members offer advice to the council regarding the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of its annual Accessibility Plan; site plans and drawings as described in Section 41 of the Planning Act; the accessibility for persons with disabilities to a building, structure or premise; and the City’s purchase of goods or services.

The Ontarians with Disabilities Act requires that a majority of MAAC, which consists of 15 public members and one councillor – be individuals with disabilities. Members with specific needs can be accommodated at MAAC meetings that take place in the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour at 1 pm on the first Thursday of every month.

Interested persons are to apply by 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 18.

Additional information and a link to the online application form can be found at the City of Kingston committees page.
