The City of Kingston has posted a notice to the public, reminding residents that potholes currently being patched are only temporary fixes. More permanent, effective repairs to winter related damage will be made when asphalt plants open in late spring.

In a release, the City explained that ‘as temperatures rise, water from thawed snow seeps into small cracks on roads and then expands when it freezes again causing cracks to grow.’

Bill Linnen, director of public works, advises commuters to slow down as the patching work continues, adding “We’ve had an early start to pothole season because of the constantly changing temperatures that creates the freeze/thaw cycle.”

If you want to report a pothole, contact the City’s Customer Service Centre at 613-546-0000 or CityofKingston.ca/contact-us.
