There’s still time for local shutterbugs to enter the 2017 Ian Walsh Photography Contest, sponsored by Kingston Life Magazine and Kingston Accommodation Partners.

This year’s theme is ‘Creative Kingston‘ with the goal of receiving photos that capture Kingston’s highly creative nature, from residents and visitors alike.

The contest advises contributors to “look to our vibrant arts culture, our local maker community, our impressive performing arts scene and our exemplary culinary landscape if you’re in need of some creative inspiration.”

There are two categories with three cash prizes each.

The “Open” category is for all photographers, amateur or professional. There is a $2,500 First Place Prize; $1,000 Second Place Prize; and $500 Third Place Prize.

The Student/Youth category is for any photographer who is a full-time, post-secondary student or is under the age of 21. That category features a $700 First Place Prize; a $200 Second Place Prize; and $100 Third Place Prize.

Winning submissions may also be featured in Kingston Life Magazine.

Digital-only photo submissions are being accepted up to December 31st, 2017. The contest Rules & Regulations state it is open to all legal residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) and each entrant can submit a maximum of five photos – anyone attempting to enter more than five photos will be disqualified.

The Ian Walsh Photography Contest was established to honour a pillar of the Kingston community who was taken suddenly in 2014. An accomplished business person, Ian Walsh was the co-owner of the Hotel Belvedere, charter Chair of Kingston Accommodation Partners, and a charter Board Member of Kingston WritersFest.
