A post on GoGaelsGo – the official website of the Queen’s University Gaels – announced that Ben Harper, son of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, has chosen to come to Queen’s University next year.

The Lisgar Collegiate High School student will be studying Commerce as part of the Class of 2018 and as a member of the Gaels volleyball program.

The new recruit is quoted as saying:

I chose Queen’s because as a student-athlete I felt that Queen’s has the right balance between school and sport. As a student Queen’s is among one of the top universities in the world. Athletically, Queen’s facilities are some of the nicest I’ve ever seen.

However, the people at Queen’s were the biggest factor in my decision. Everyone on the volleyball team and in Queen’s University as a whole has a very high level of school pride. I’m looking forward to being a part of that next year!

Ben Harper has been a member of the Ottawa Fusion Volleyball team since the age of 14. His list of awards and achievements include: 2014 AAA OFSAA Bronze medal, U16 Canadian Open Championship All-Star, and Ontario Winter Games silver medalist.
