Former Senior Vice-President with CBC/Radio-Canada, George Smith, has been named a Fellow in the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University.

His focus will be towards industrial relations and contributing to the school’s research, graduate degree programs, and professional outreach programs.

Mr. Smith, who graduated from Queen’s in 1973 with a Bachelor of Commerce, said he was happy to be returning to Kingston, adding “I am looking forward to taking the knowledge that I’ve learned at the bargaining table and in the boardroom and sharing it with students in the classroom.”

Smith has also served as VP of Industrial Relations at CP Rail and Senior Director of Employee relations at Air Canada. He has also designed and delivered many seminars on labour relations and collective bargaining.

He has previously given a number of presentations for Queen’s and looks forward to teaching a course in negotiation for the Professional Masters of Industrial Relations Program this spring.

“We are thrilled to have George Smith join us,” said School of Policy Studies director Peter Harrison. “He is a leader in his field and has a vast amount of experience from his time working at CBC, CP Rail and Air Canada. He has a lot to offer to the Queen’s community.”
