Kingston Police report citizens prevented an impaired driver from fleeing the scene of a collision on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm when the accused was driving at a high rate of speed northbound on University Avenue and struck a parked vehicle near Brock Street.
The driver then continued heading northbound, swerving into oncoming traffic before coming to a stop on the front yard of a house on University Avenue at Garrett Street.
The accused attempted to flee on foot, but was detained by witnesses until police arrived.
According to police, the driver – a 27-year-old Toronto woman – was belligerent with officers and uncooperative through the booking process at police headquarters.
The individual was subsequently charged with impaired driving and fail to provide breath sample, later released with a future court date.
Th woman’s driver’s licence is also automatically suspended for 90 days and will receive a one year suspension if convicted.
