Portion of Cataraqui Trail To Be Closed for Repairs

Cataraqui TrailThe Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) has announced that, beginning Friday, December 8, a portion of the Cataraqui Trail will be closed for repairs and revitalization work.

The affected area is located between Chaffey’s Locks Road and Marina Road in the Township of Rideau Lakes.

While this work is taking place, that section of the trail will be closed to the public as it is very narrow and passes through am environmentally sensitive wetland, according to the CRCA.

The work is expected to take approximately one week and involves resurfacing the trail with a solid base layer and top dressing in two of the lowest, wettest areas, which are typically flooded every spring.

The Cataraqui Trail is a year-round, shared-use recreation trail running approximately 103 kilometres from Smiths Falls in the east to Strathcona (just outside Greater Napanee) in the west. While the CRCA is the owner, the management and development of the trail is taken care of by the Cataraqui Trail Management Board (CTMB). The Management Board has representatives from trail user groups, municipalities, landowners and the CRCA.
