Kingston’s Wagner family surprised their supporters this morning by announcing that their second twin daughter, Binh, has now also received a donor liver transplant.
In a Facebook post early Monday morning, Johanne Wagner wrote “BINH RECEIVED HER GIFT!!!” in a Facebook post where she went on to thank the donor and to ask for privacy while tending to Binh with her recovery.
Binh and her twin sister, Phuoc, were adopted from Vietnam at 18 months old. They both have Alagille syndrome, a genetic disease that affects the liver, heart and other vital organs.
The family’s story made international news earlier in the year, when the Wagners found out that Michael, their father, was a viable match but could only donate part of his liver to one of the girls.
It was left for doctors to choose the best candidate out of the two girls, based on medical factors, and Phuoc received the transplant.
Later this morning, photos were posted to Facebook of Binh wearing a crown that she received after blood work was performed (above) along with some post surgery pictures, including in ICU where, according to her mother, Binh had trouble with breathing for much longer than her twin.
Below is the entirety of Johanne Wagner’s initial post to their Facebook supporters:
“BINH RECEIVED HER GIFT!!! There are not enough words to thank the amazing and so unselfish donor. And in order to respect the anonymity of this wonderful person, please do not ask or try to find out when the transplant took place: this is irrelevant. After all, what really counts here is the gesture and the great result.
As you can all imagine, I am very busy and involved tending to Binh’s needs and recovery. So please, dear Media, wait for Public Affairs from the hospitals as they will be reaching out to you with more details. Please kindly refrain from contacting either Michael or myself directly: NO EXCEPTIONS wink emoticon Let’s keep in mind that our personal cell phones are to be used for family emergencies and affairs only.
Binh is recovering well, at her own pace. She has been through a lot with very different medical issues from her twin who had her transplant two months ago. We are looking forward to all being reunited and leading a healthier life now, with both transplants finally behind us.
More to come, lots of pictures as soon as I get a chance, stay tuned!!!”
