Poet bill bissett in Kingston for Poetry Month

Famed international poet bill bissett is coming to Kingston on April 1st, kicking off Canada’s official Poetry Month with the contemporary art poetry event “Sound One Two“.

Presented by “Modern Fuel Artist Run Centre” and “253469“, this presentation will be held at Modern Fuel’s main gallery in the TETT Centre at 370 King Street West.

bill bissett is an internationally acclaimed poet who has contributed to Canadian literature and contemporary art for over 40 years.

In 2006, Margaret Atwood and Leonard Cohen were two of more than 80 writers who honoured the Bissett – who has published more than 60 books – with a tribute published by Nightwood Editions.

The next year, bissett was awarded the George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to literature in British Columbia. Also in 2007, The Chemical Brothers incorporated a sample of ‘Ode To D.A. Levy‘ by bill bissett, on their CD “We Are The Night“, from bissett’s album ‘Awake In The Red Desert‘.

With roots that go back to the generation of Beat poets, bissett was named one of the “great poets” in 1968 by genre pioneer Jack Kerouac in the Paris Review.
