WPBS announced this past week that Kingston’s Bayridge Secondary School prevailed over their American counterparts in the 2016 International Whiz Quiz Competition.

Twenty-nine U.S. high schools competed during the year in a single elimination tournament, with the Immaculate Heart Central team, led by Advisor Sister Cecilia Marie Hermann, winning the American spot to compete in the finals.

Bayridge Secondary School, with their Advisor Cindy Eccles, won the title north of the border in a competition between three Canadian teams.

A final match aired on WPBS between Immaculate Heart Central and Bayridge Secondary School resulted in the Canadian team clinching the win and becoming this year’s International Whiz Quiz champions.

The match was nail biter up until the final seconds, with Whiz Quiz host Glenn Gough calling it “the best International final we’ve ever had on Quiz Whiz in 37 years. Absolutely the best.”

The network reports an awards ceremony will be held spring of 2017 to honour the winners.
