Two Bath Road Lanes to be Replaced with Bike Lane & Path

A City of Kingston Open House next week will discuss the possibility of closing two vehicle lanes on Bath Road, reducing it from the current four lanes to two, to make way for a bicycle lane and multi-use path.

This is the preferred design option being presented for discussion at a March 28th meeting – a change that would result in a single car lane in each direction to provide the space required for a new separated bikeway and multi-use path.

“This project is a significant addition to the City’s active transportation network and will encourage more people to choose to walk or cycle along this scenic waterfront route,” said Mark Van Buren, director of engineering, in a City release.

The 1.7 km Bath Road bikeway and multi-use path will connect two sections of the Waterfront Trail between Collins Bay Road and Coverdale Drive. The two new routes can be used by people walking, cycling or using a wheelchair to get to their destination.

The project is supported by $268,500 from the Government of Ontario via the Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program.

The open house is at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28 at Legion 631, 4034 Bath Rd.
