Police Release Name of Accused in Wednesday’s Bank Robbery

Kingston Police has released the name of a 32-year-old local male charged with the bank robbery that occurred in Kingston yesterday.

The robbery occurred at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12 when a lone male entered the 750 Gardiners Road TD Canada Trust. The man informed a teller that he had a gun, demanded cash, then fled with a quantity of Canadian currency.

Numerous tips were received after his description and bank surveillance images were released to the public, including a report that a man matching the description had taken a taxi to the Cliff Crescent area shortly after the robbery.

Evidence was located near that location and at 8:50 p.m. – less than four hours after the robbery – police attended to a local Kingston motel where the suspect was found and arrested without incident. No firearm was located and a small amount of cash was recovered.

The accused, William A. Locke, was transported to Kingston Police headquarters where he was held overnight in cells until attending a bail hearing on Thursday.

Locke is being charged with one count of Robbery and three counts of Breach of Probation.

A William A. Locke of a similar age can be found listed in the “In the Courts” pages of the Kingston Whig Standard, with charges that include vandalism, criminal harassment, and parole violation in 2009 and 2015.

In a statement, Kingston Police expressed their thanks to the public for its assistance in the quick and successful conclusion of their investigation.
