On Sunday, the Memorial Centre Farmers’ Market opened up again at its Winter Market location, the Princess St. United Church at 484 Albert Street.
The weekly Sunday market offers a wide range of seasonal fresh produce, meats, cheeses, honey, prepared meals, artisan crafts, baked and canned goods, sweets, personal care products, hot coffee, live music and kid’s activities.
Shoppers to the winter market are advised they can find ample parking at the Memorial Centre and walk the one block South to this winter location.
The Winter Market is a relatively new option for Kingston shoppers. The market operated only seasonally, beginning in 2012, until receiving a 2015 Community Foundation of Kingston & Area grant to establish a winter location.
The project has since been a big success with an average of more than 500 shoppers each week during the winter months.
“I’ll never get tired of meeting the new shoppers who are catching onto seasonal eating,” said MCFM’s On-site Manager, Emma Barken. “Each week we are seeing new faces and getting encouraging feedback. Giving shoppers more opportunities to buy local and seeing new small businesses thrive really gives our work meaning.”
