Kingston athletes Will Crothers, Rob Gibson, and Nicolas Pratt have been nominated to the upcoming Pan Am Games’ Canadian rowing team.

They were just three of the 26 National Rowing Team athletes who were nominated this week by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Rowing Canada Aviron to represent Canada at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games being held from July 10 to 26.

The rowing regatta is scheduled to take place on the Royal Canadian Henley course in St. Catharines, Ontario, from July 11 to 15.

This year’s Pan Am Games will be the first time in 16 years that an international rowing competition has been held in Canada, with the previous event also being held on the Royal Canadian Henley course during the 1999 World Rowing Championships.

Along with the Pan Am Games regatta, the National team will also be competing at World Rowing Cup races in Europe, in preparation for the World Rowing Championships in France at the end of the summer, which in turn will serve as the primary Olympic qualifying competition for Rio 2016.

Another Kingstonian nominated last week for the Pan Am Games is Danielle Boyd, who was one of eighteen athletes selected to compete in the sailing competition. She and her team mates were chosen based on their performances at designated class qualifiers that included recent trials held at the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club.

The sailing competition will take place by the Royal Canadian Yacht Club from July 12 to 19.
