Kingston Transit Breaks All-Time High Ridership Record

Kingston Transit has announced that someone boarding a bus yesterday took the five-millionth ride of the year.

That makes it two years in a row that KT has passed their goal and 2016 ridership broke its all-time high ridership record.

“This time last year, we achieved four million trips. By adding 10-minute service on the 501/502 Express Route this fall, we were able to transport one million more people than we did in 2015,” said Kingston Transit manager,Jeremy DaCosta. “This new record is incredible – for the people of Kingston, the environment, employers and especially Kingston Transit.”

The ridership record coincides with Wednesday’s announcement that Kingston Transit will be receiving $2.3 million in provincial gas tax funding in 2016/17.

This funding is being used to increase service and ridership while also improving patron experience, as set out by the Transit Redevelopment Plan.

Improvements over the next two years are to include expanded hours of service on Sundays and statutory holidays as well as introducing an express route to the Montreal Street corridor.
