Kingston Man Wins $100,000 in LOTTO MAX Draw

A Kingston man who opted in for Encore on his Lotto Max ticket ended up matching six of the seven winning numbers to take home $100,000.

Dan MacNaughton, who said he plays Lotto Max once a week and always adds Encore to the tickets, won the prize in the December 23, 2016 LOTTO MAX draw.

The 64 year old electrician said he typically checks his tickets just one time during the month – confirming the numbers first at OLG.ca and then having them scanned at a store’s ticket scanner.

That extra vigilance literally paid off for Dan, as he initially forgot to check his Encore numbers online and thought he hadn’t won anything. It wasn’t until he ran it through the store scanner along with his other tickets that he realized the ticket was in fact a winner.

In an interview with OLG, Dan said “When I saw the amount appear on the screen, I was shocked. I didn’t expect it. As I walked over to the retailer, I began thinking, ‘Maybe I made a mistake.’ The retailer scanned my ticket and then gave me a big hug. Customers at the store congratulated me and gave me high fives.”

Dan, who has been married for 44 years, said they both enjoy traveling and have talked about using some of the winnings to go on an Alaskan cruise or to visit Newfoundland.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Bath Road in Kingston.
