Police have charged a 35 year old Kingston man with aggravated assault after being informed of a a three-month-old child with serious injuries.

Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox & Addington were contacted on March 30 by medical staff at a local hospital who were treating the child for multiple bone fractures.

Kingston Police were then notified and detectives from the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit began an investigation.

Detectives were informed that the child’s mother recently left the healthy boy in the care of her husband, who is also the biological father of the child, while she was away from the home for a brief time.

After returning home, the mother noticed the boy was crying when she put him to bed, but did not notice his injuries until the following morning, at which time he was immediately brought to the hospital.

Both parents were interviewed by detectives who subsequently arrested the father for aggravated assault.

The man was held overnight in cells and attended a bail hearing the next day.

Police report the boy’s condition is stable, but his injuries are considered serious and he will require additional medical treatment.

Detectives will be continuing their investigation to determine the age of all injuries and a timeline for any history of abuse.
