Kingstonians are invited to an open house in the Wally Elmer Neighbourhood Centre at 50 MacCauley Street, where plans for the Wally Skatepark will be on display from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m on Tuesday, June 19.

The Skatepark will be built beside the Neighbourhood Centre and is based on plans that include suggestions submitted by local skateboarders. Those recommedations were provided by the skateboarders in January of 2010, at a workshop organized by the Community Response to Neighbourhood Concerns (CRNC) and the City of Kingston.

“We want skateboarders to come see their ideas and elements integrated into these proposed designs,” said the Manager of Parks Development, Neal Unsworth. “This is another chance to offer input to shape this active new space.”

The Skatepark designs were provided to the CRNC and the City by Jim Barnum of Spectrum Skatepark Creations. Funds are being collected by the CRNC to be used for the building of this park, which will feature a street course as well as classic streetboarding elements.

The Polson Skatepark was completed a month ahead of schedule and the City of Kingston will be opening the Grenadier Skatepark this June.
