150 Years of Operetta Coming to Kingston’s Grand Theatre

Four of Canada’s finest singers are coming together to help Kingston celebrate 150 years of musical theatre and operetta while the city also marks Canada’s 150th birthday

Some Enchanted Evening will be on stage at the Grand Theatre on Friday, January 27, 2017 beginning at 7:30 pm.

Under direction of pianist/music director David Warrack, the performance features tenor Ben Heppner, soprano Rebecca Caine, mezzo-soprano Jean Stilwell, and bass-baritone Gary Relyea.

These musical artists have performed in opera houses, concert halls and theatres around the world, and are now set to captivate a Kingston audience with light opera selections from ‘Die Fledermaus’, ‘Carmen’ and ‘The Merry Widow’, through to ‘Show Boat’, ‘Porgy and Bess’, ‘South Pacific’ and ‘My Fair Lady’, right up to’ Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Les Miserables’.

Tenor Ben Heppner is recognized internationally as one of the leading Wagnerian Heldentenors of our time and can be heard hosting on CBC-Radio Two.

Soprano Rebecca Caine came to fame in the acclaimed Toronto production of ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and in the original West End production of ‘Les Miserables’.

Mezzo-soprano Jean Stilwell is known for a number of world-wide performances in the role of Carmen, and is now co-host of Good Morning GTA on Classical 96 FM.

Bass-baritone Gary Relyea is the country’s definitive Elijah and Christus as well as performing all of the major oratorio and many of the operatic roles for bass-baritone.

Pianist/music director David Warrack is the Founder and Director of the Canada Pops Orchestra and known as one of the nation’s most distinguished musical theatre composer/conductor/arranger/accompanist/performers.
