Ron Sexsmith and His New Album’s Kingston Connection

Ron Sexsmith, The Last Rider

This past week, singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith announced details about his new album The Last Rider and its instrumental Kingston connection.

The three-time Juno award winner co-produced the new album with his drummer and collaborator Don Kerr at The Bathouse Studios in Bath, Ontario just outside Kingston.

Scheduled for an April 21 release, this will be Sexsmith’s thirteenth studio recording and the first to include his touring band.

“At this point, it’s just second nature for me to write short, melodic songs that say everything I want to say,” said Ron, in a release. “But having my band totally involved on this album maybe brought out more in the songs than on other recent albums. It felt special, anyway.”

The Bathouse Studios is a private recording studio, owned and operated by the The Tragically Hip, that describes itself as being “designed for and by musicians”.

The main house was built in 1842 and first served as a coach house for traffic on the road between Kingston and Toronto. Now the restored and renovated studio is one of the last residential recording facilities in Canada.

Performers who recorded at The Bathouse include The Hip, Sam Roberts, Bruce Cockburn, Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir, Blue Rodeo, PS I Love You, and Sarah Harmer.
