Mayor Mark Gerretsen posted to his Facebook page yesterday that scenes for an upcoming episode of the “Nikita” television series will be filmed in Kingston’s historic Market Square.

According to a document from Nikita Films, exterior filming will take place on Market Street and King Street (map) on Monday, January 14 beginning at 7:00 am and finishing by 6:00 pm.

Since this will prevent the public from using the Market Square’s skating rink that day, Nikita Films has rented ice time at the K-Rock Centre (map) for skaters to use between 9:30 am and 5:00 pm.

Production vehicles will have nearby parking areas assigned to them for Monday, and Kingston Police will be monitoring intermittent traffic stoppages required for filming.

Nikita airs on the CW Network in the U.S. and on CTV2 in Canada.

Based on the French film Nikita (1990) and the TV show La Femme Nikita (1997-2001), this series follows the main character years after she escaped from a covert government agency known as ‘Division‘ and has now returned to destroy it.

Maggie Q, whose career has included roles in “Mission Impossible III” and “Live Free or Die hard”, stars in the title role.
