Don Cherry – the Kingston born and raised Hockey Night in Canada host of “Coach’s Corner” – joined his broadcasting partner Ron MacLean (both seen above) in Toronto this past Saturday to be inducted to Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Cherry was a player and then coach in the NHL before beginning a career as a CBC commentator in 1980. He was joined by Maclean in the 1986-87 hockey season.

The late actor Lorne Greene (B.A. 1937, LL.D. 1971), a former Kingston resident while attending Queen’s University – famous as a CBC Radio broadcaster in WW2 and his starring roles in TV’s “Bonanza” and “Battlestar Galactica” – received a posthumous honour.

This year’s other inductees include singer Michael Buble, actress Wendy Crewson, Olympic medallist Silken Laumann, and author Lawrence Hill.

At the ceremony hosted by actor Jason Priestly, pop star Shawn Mendes was presented with the Allan Slaight Honour, which recognizes the achievements of young Canadians who have the ability to turn their talent into inspiration.
