Vote on Lyrics for Tragically Hip Commemorative Stone

Kingston City Council, as a result of requests from members of the public, has decided to mark the historic live stream of The Tragically Hip’s August 20 concert with a commemorative stone in Springer Market Square.

The Square hosted 25,000 + fans who packed in to viewing the live concert – which itself was a mere few blocks away in the Rogers K-Rock Centre at #1 The Tragically Hip Way  – along with millions of other Canadians across the country (and around the world).

The city has consulted with The Hip for their input and the choice of lyric options has been narrowed down to two possibilities.

Now they need the public’s help in choosing which lyric will be engraved on the stone:

• “…everybody was in it from miles around…” – from Blow at High Dough.
• “We danced the sidewalk clean…” – from New Orleans is Sinking.

In addition to the chosen lyric will be the words “The Tragically Hip, A National Celebration, August 20, 2016”.

The survey ends at the end of the day on October 12th, and you can place your vote online at this City of Kingston survey page or by calling the City’s customer service line at 613-546-0000, Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm.

The City writes that the stone and “a new page in the ‘Kingston Remembers’ history flipbook will commemorate the night more than 25,000 people gathered in the Square to view a live-streaming of the final show in the recent tour of The Tragically Hip – our cherished hometown band. All Canada joined Kingston in celebrating the band.”
