Frontenac High School Students Exhibit Photos at Pump House Steam Museum

A new exhibit at the Pump House Steam Museum features the work of photography students at Frontenac Secondary School.

Industry Through the Lens‘ includes unexpected images of Kingston’s industrial past and present, from breweries to bread making. This exhibit pulls back the curtain on some of Kingston’s most fascinating sites and stories. The exhibit will run from May 29 through July 31.

“At the Museum we were researching Kingston’s past industries for a future exhibit and an opportunity came along to work with Grade 11 Frontenac photography students,” says Gordon Robinson, curator of the Pump House Steam Museum. “As part of that research we thought it would be good to get impressions of Kingston’s past and present industry from the community.”

The community is invited to the opening of the exhibit on May 29 at 6:30 pm, where the photographers will be on hand to discuss their work. Light refreshments will be served.

The exhibit is being displayed in the newly renovated Engineerium room at the Museum – located at 23 Ontario Street – a space that will feature new exhibits on a rotating basis.

“We are very excited to open this new temporary exhibition space for the community to enjoy and visit. It allows us as a City Museum to bring in a number of exhibits each year for the public to experience and enjoy. A new Viking exhibit from the Manitoba Museum is coming in August 2012 and the new space can also be rented by the public for future community events,” Robinson said.

Admission to the exhibit is included with standard admission to the Museum: $5 for adults and $1.50 for children under 12.

The Engineerium is just part of the rejuvenation now taking place at the Pump House site, which also includes the addition of new windows and an updated HVAC system. Other updates, including landscaping, are still in progress. The Pump House Steam Museum is located at 23 Ontario Street, downtown on beautiful Lake Ontario.
