CTV’s Gemini Award winning Flashpoint, which portrays the missions of Toronto’s Strategic Response Unit, will be returning to the CBS network in the United States on Friday, May 6.
The SRU tactical police squad is inspired by Toronto’s actual Emergency Task Force, and stars Enrico Colantoni, Amy Jo Johnson, David Paetkau and Kingston-born Hugh Dillon.
This season will replace the new series “CHAOS”, which is going on hiatus now but reportedly will return to the schedule at a later date.
Flashpoint premiered on CBS in July of 2008 and went on to become the summer’s top original scripted series. There has been no word on how this may affect the earlier announced deal that CBS had signed over distribution rights for all existing and future episodes of the series to ION Television
In addition to being born in Kingston, Hugh Dillon was also lead singer for the hard rock band The Headstones which formed in Kingston in 1987 and was one of the country’s most successful bands until their breakup in 2003.
He has been nominated for a Gemini award in 2008 for his work on Durham County, and was also nominated for a Genie award in 2007 for his role in the movie Trailer Park Boys.
Dillon also continues his post-Headstones singing career with a limited, independent CD entitled “Works Well with Others”, and his song “Lost at Sea” was used to conclude the 8th episode of Flashpoint entitled “Never Kissed a Girl”.
UPDATE: On its May 6 premiere, Flashpoint won the 8 pm time slot handily for total viewers (by over 2.4 million) although placing third for the 18-49 ratings share.
