Donald Trump Disses Former Kingstonian

Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump exchanged snarky comments over the weekend with former Kingston resident, John Oliver, and his HBO TV show “Last Week Tonight“.

The comedian, who attended grade 8 here in Kingston, appeared on “CBS This Morning” on Friday and was asked by host Gayle King about his endorsement of Donald Trump.

“I have endorsed Donald Trump?”, answered Oliver. “I have very much NOT done that on any level. I don’t really care about him in any capacity.”

King then asked: “So you wouldn’t want to have him on the show?”

To which Oliver responded: “On my show? No. I haven’t really got anything to say to him. He’s said everything he wants to say. He has no internal monologue, that man. So it’s not like you’re going to find the secret nugget he’s been holding back. He’s an open book. And that book doesn’t have many interesting words in it.”

That exchange appears to have been the catalyst for a twitter post by Donald Trump the next day, where he wrote: “John Oliver had his people call to ask me to be on his very boring and low rated show. I said “NO THANKS” Waste of time & energy!”

That tweet was responded to by the “Last Week Tonight” show’s account on November 1st:

“A couple of points…
1. Yes, we have a boring show.
2. At no point did we invite Donald Trump to appear on it.”

You can watch the “CBS This Morning” segment – his remarks about Donald Trump begin at the 6:23 mark (after the possible pre-role ad) on

Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver airs on HBO and HBO Canada Sunday nights at 11 pm and was recently renewed by the network for two more seasons.
