National skate champions, Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier, who were crowned this week at the Canadian Championships in Victoria BC, will kick off the start of Feb Fest with a performance at Kingston’s premier winter festival.

The “Imagination on Ice figure” skating show will take place Thursday February 3rd, immediately following the Opening Ceremonies at 6:40pm. Along with this performance by Crone and Poirier, each of the area skating clubs will showcase a selection of their young talent at the event.

“This is great for Feb Fest. To have Canada’s number one dance pair in the show is fantastic,” said Feb Fest organizer Laura Meggs. “It’s nice to have some of Canada’s best competitors back in Kingston. After winning the Skate Canada international title here in Kingston this past October we are thrilled to have them back. If you missed them at the K-Rock Centre were giving you as second chance to see them live.”

Before they began skating together, Paul Poirier was a successful single skater who won the 2008 National Junior silver medal and competing in the 2008/2009 Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series and Vanessa Crone skated at the 2008 Junior Nationals where she came in 13th. Since coming together as a skating team in 2001, they have become one of the most talented Canadian pairs on tour.

The “Imagination on Ice” show at Fab Fest is made possible by a grant from Celebrate Ontario at the Ministry of Tourism as well as support from Kingston Accommodation Partners.

Feb Fest runs from February 3rd through the 6th and you can get a complete schedule events by visiting Febfestkingston.com.
