It appears the rumours are true and Kingston area resident Dan Aykroyd will be joining his pal Bill Murray in the upcoming Zombieland 2.
The first film’s main cast will be returning for the sequel – Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abagail Breslin, and Jesse Eisenberg – along with Bill Murray, who cameoed as a zombie version of himself in Zombieland.
Based on the new film’s IMDB page, which features Ackroyd’s own name for the character he portrays, he too will appear as a fictionalized version of himself – likely also as a zombie, but possibly as a human survivor like the main cast.
Talent behind the camera for Zombieland2 is just as impressive, with Ruben Fleischer returning to direct the sequel scripted by Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984) along with screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Deadpool 2).
Aykroyd and Murray have remained close friends over the years, as was demonstrated a year and a half back when they were seen together hanging out in Kingston and nearby Aykroyd’s ancestral home outside the city. There’s also hope from fans that the two actors, along with Ernie Hudson, will pass the torch to a new crop of Ghostbusters in the recently announced sequel.
Zombieland 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on the tenth anniversary of the original film’s release – October 11, 2019.
