According to The Wrap.com, Kingston area resident Dan Aykroyd will be joining fellow SNL alumnus Will Ferrell and “The Hang Over” star & past SNL host, Zach Galifianakis in the political themed comedy “Dog Fight”.

Due to be release on August 10, Ferrell and Galifianakis portray inept political rivals competing for a congressional seat in North Carolina. The three actors are producing the movie, along with Adam McKay – a long time collaborator of Ferrell, including co-founding the “Funny or Die” video website.

The film is being directed by Jay Roach – who has produced Borat, Bruno, the ‘Meet the Parents” films and directed all three of the Austin Powers movies – and the script penned by “Eastbound & Down” (Kenny Powers) writer Shawn Harwell and its executive producer Chris Henchy.

Dan Aykroyds roll has not yet been described, nor have the remaining roles portrayed by John Lithgow, Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Thomas Middleditch and Brian Cox.

All three primary actors have some political connections – Galifianakis’s uncle Nick Galifianakis served in Congress from 1967 to 1973, and both Ferrell and Aykroyd have portrayed Presidents during their time on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.  Dan Aykroyd frequently channeled then-President Jimmy Carter and Ferrell has impersonated President George W. Bush both on and off the SNL stage.

The duo reprised their Presidential roles, along with other SNL alumni, for a presidential reunion sketch that appeared on FunnyorDie.com. (below)
