The music and lyrics of the Tragically Hip filled the Rogers K-Rock Centre again last night, as country star Dallas Smith paid tribute to Gord Downie.

The Platinum selling singer performed one of the many instantly recognizable Hip tunes “Grace Too” to a packed audience of fans.

In a video posted by Smith to his Facebook page (below), he wrote:

Was an honour to play the home of The Tragically Hip tonight in Kingston Ontario. Tonight we paid respects as a band and lovers of Gord’s influence on us.

Thoughts and love to his family, friends and fans.

Thank you Gord Downie.

As the song was concluding, the singer revealed an encounter he had with Gord Downie when he and his band performed on the same bill as the Tragically Hip and Gord helped him with a bit of a jam.

The story is both amusing and yet another great example of Downie’s down to earth and helpful nature.

Smith concluded the tale by calling Gord a “very, very sweet and quirky man” and that it was an honor to play this building so shortly after his passing.

The Rogers K-Rock Centre, located at 1 The Tragically Hip Way, is the site of the Tragically Hip’s final performance, viewed by countless millions of Canadians at home and around the world.
