Kingston area resident Dan Aykroyd announced on Facebook today that he is in Australia to launch a new line of his award winning Crystal Head Vodka.
July 2016 Update: Aurora Crystal Head Vodka Now Available in Ontario
The new line is called Aurora, named after the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis – commonly known as the Northern Lights and Southern Lights – with a new recipe that offers a “drier, bolder, and spicier vodka” than the original line.
While both vodkas use pristine glacial meltwater from Newfoundland, the Aurora grain is from English Wheat compared to the earlier recipe which uses “Peaches and Cream” corn grown in the Chatham-Kent region of Ontario.
Like the original Crystal Head, Aurora is filtered seven times – including three through Herkimer diamonds – but the brand’s already impressive four-times distillation process has been increased to five for this new line.
The distinctive and much coveted skull shaped bottle, designed by John Alexander and inspired by the legend of the 13 Crystal Skulls, has been enhanced for Aurora to feature an iridescent metallized finish. A tribute to the colourful shimmering Northern Lights that is its inspiration.
When asked on Facebook about its availability in Canada, the company reports Aurora has only being launched in Australia currently but will be available in other countries in the near future. You can “like” Crystal Head Vodka’s Facebook page for updates on when it will be on sale in your area.
While on tour of Australia this week, Dan Aykroyd joined radio/TV duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, where he comically ad-libbed a variety of radio ads to promote Crystal Head Vodka (below).
