Firefighter Challenge - dragging a dummy

Kingston Fire & Rescue is giving you the chance to find out what it’s like to put out a car fire, ride a fire truck or to test your endurance by taking the Firefit Challenge.

Their Community Day for the United Way is being held at the Regional Training Centre at 3 Terry Fox Drive between 10 am and 3 pm on Saturday, September 23.

You can enjoy all the day’s activities, including meeting Sparky, with a donation to the United Way – benefiting the 75,000 Kingstonians who use one of the agencies that are funded by the United Way.

Donations to the United Way of KFL&A for this event are $10 per person or just $20 for the family. Kingston Fire & Rescue will be holding a barbecue and a food truck will also be on site.

“This is an active, fun and educational day out for kids of all ages. Last year we raised $2,200 in cool, wet weather and we are aiming to improve on that this year,” said Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong in a release.  “Once again, I challenge Kingston’s strongest residents to come try the Firefit Challenge – it’s the toughest two minutes in sport!”

Armstrong said that businesses can also sign up for a unique, exclusive team building opportunity by participating in the Corporate Firefit Challenge that’s taking place that same day.

Competition details for businesses can be found at this Eventbrite page. Register your team of three to six people by September 20 with a $150 donation.

The registration page describes the Firefit Challenge as an obstacle course that contains firefighting tasks like running up a staircase in full firefighting gear, hoisting a fire hose and dragging a dummy to safety.
