Bryan Adams Warns Fans About Online Scammer

Singer-songwriter Bryan Adams is warning fans about a scam artist pretending to be him online.

The star reports anyone contacted by a person identifying themselves as him, and asking for money or to hold onto luggage, should “report the scam to your local police”.

Adams – who was born here in Kingston in 1959 – also advised targets to not give out their phone number or bank details. Anyone who has already been duped and provided banking information should contact their financial institution immediately.

Fans commenting on his Facebook post indicated similar scams may have been going on for a year or more, often with the impostor making contact through a “friend request” on Facebook. More than one fan stated receiving a picture identified as Adams’ passport photo as supposed proof of the message’s authenticity.

No specifics on this particular scam was provided, however there are a variety of tricks used to fool people into wiring money, including claims to send a suitcase containing valuable property and asking the mark to send money – perhaps under the pretext of ensuring the contents won’t be stolen.

Other Facebook commenters to his post have reported receiving similar types of messages on Facebook from scammers pretending to celebrities like Willy Nelson, Steven Tyler, and Joan Jett.

Bryan Adams – who spent his very earliest years in the city, when his father served in the Canadian Armed Forces – is currently beginning the western Canada portion of his worldwide “Get Up” tour.

Get Up is the thirteenth studio album by the music legend (and acclaimed photographer) and was released worldwide on October 16, 2015 by Universal Music. The album was co-written with Bryan’s long-time collaborator, Jim Vallance, and produced by Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne. It can purchased online at Amazon.ca and on iTunes.
