Avril Lavigne Releases “Hello Kitty” Music Video

Avril Lavigne released a new video today for her song “Hello Kitty”.

The song has been released as her self-titled album’s fourth single in Asia, while the worldwide fourth single will be “Give You What You Like”. It weas co-written by Lavigne, her husband and Nickleback lead singer Chad Kroeger, David Hodges and Martin Johnson.

The singer-songwriter – who was raised just outside Kingston, in nearby Napanee – has a long history of obsession with the iconic ‘Hello Kitty’, having tweeted back in 2010 that she “can’t get enough” of the Japanese character.

Hello Kitty was created by designer Yuko Shimizu and produced by the Japanese company Sanrio. The character first appearance in Japan was on a vinyl coin purse in 1974 and marketed in the United States in 1976.

The new video is subtitled in both English and Japanese and features a colourful romp with Avril and four backup dancers.

Having already completed a series of successful Asian concerts, Avril will begin the Latin leg of her tour in Brazil on April 29.

After completing her shows down south, she will join the Backstreet Boys on their American tour beginning May 22 in Seattle.

Unfortunately, Lavigne will miss out on performing a near-hometown concert here in Kingston when the Backstreet Boys appear at the K-Rock Centre on May 6.  She appears to have only one Canadian date on her tour when she performs in Orillia, Ontario on June 24th (Updated to reflect that this appearance is not part of the Backstreet Boys tour).

The “Avril Lavigne” album – her fifth straight top five album on the U.S. Billboard albums chart – can be fund on iTunes and Amazon.com.
