Avril Lavigne Fans Top Singer’s Birthday Charity Goal

Avril Lavigne once again this year asked fans to celebrate her birthday by making donations to her charity in support of children and youth living with serious illnesses or disabilities.

The singer-songwriter offered her supporters a wide range of donation points (as little as $3) with offers of increasingly better ‘swag’ as the donation amounts increased.

But for every donation – no matter how small – the pledge also entered them into a draw to win the chance of being flown to L.A., where they would accompany Avril on the red carpet at her album release party on November 5th.

Lavigne dedicated this year’s birthday event to helping her foundation fund a music therapist for Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA to “help kids feel like rockstars”.

Avril and her friend, musician Evan Taubenfeld, were also involved with the hospital in 2012 when they delivered toys and musical instruments to the children there.

For 2013, the star set a target of $50,000 to fund a part-time Board-certified music therapist and support programming for an entire year at the Children’s Hospital. Donations rolled in throughout the month and the final total exceeded her goal by more than 10%, with $55,995 being raised.

Avril Lavigne’s self-titled album is set to be released next week and its initial singles have already racked up 10s of millions of views on the singer’s official Youtube channel.

The album’s first video, “Here’s to Never Growing Up”, has over 57 million hits, the song “Rock N Roll” has been seen more than 17 million times, and her latest release – a ballad with husband Chad Kroeger, “Let Me Go” – has already surpassed 12 million views.

The album “Avril Lavigne” will be released on Tuesday, November 5th and is available to order now on Amazon and on iTunes.
