Kingston “Movies in the Square” Begins June 19

The 2014 season of “Movies in the Square” is set to begin next Thursday, June 19 after weeks of voting on the selections by Kingston area residents.

The weekly event will turn Springer Market Square into a free outdoor movie theatre for most Thursday nights this summer with the week’s film being projected onto an inflatable screen, parallel to Market Street in the Square.

Screenings begin at dusk – about 9:00 pm for the June and July showings and nearer to 8:30 pm for the features in August – and “Seat positioning” is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The movie line up for 2014 includes:

June 19: We Bought a Zoo
June 26: Space Jam
July 3: Frozen
July 17: My Fair Lady
July 24: The Avengers
July 31: Groundhog Day
Aug 7: Free Willy
Aug 14: Jurrasic Park
Aug 21: School of Rock
Aug 28: Princess Bride

The city encourages movie-goers to come early and bring a low-back lawn chair so everyone can get a clear view of the screen. Admittance is free and refreshments are expected to be be available for sale in the Square.

In the event a movie date is cancelled due to inclement weather, a new date will be announced through local media and Downtown Kingston’s Facebook and @downtownktown Twitter pages.
