The 1000 Islands Writers Festival invites you to join them in celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary.

Step back in time to 1867 to a small town tavern setting frequented by Canada’s future Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald, for an evening of “food and frivolity” while experiencing a moment in history when a new nation was about to be formed.

The Launch Party Fundraiser will take place April 1st, 2017 beginning 7:30 pm at the Thousand Islands Playhouse Firehall Theatre in the company of Sir John A. MacDonald.

Sir John A. MacDonald

The event pays tribute to Canada’s First Prime Minister through Sir John A’s favorite food, drink and stories from the year the country was born.

Special guest Lindy Mechefske – author of Sir John’s Table, winner of the 2016 Taste Canada Food Writing Awards Gold Award for Culinary Narratives – will share stories about the food and customs of those times along with some insights into MacDonald’s life after office hours.

There will also be a surprise special guest who will help bring the persona of Sir John A. to life with more stories, humour and lore.

Contributing to the 1867 tavern atmosphere will be the local Celtic Folk band, Turpin’s Trail, playing a variety of original & traditional music (see their video below).

The event is made possible thanks to the partnership of the Thousand Islands Playhouse and sponsorship by the Gananoque Brewing Company.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased through the Gananoque Public Library 613-382-2436 or online at 1000islandswritersfestival.ca.
